I was very captivated by the characters in the first chapters, when I meet them for the first time. They were simple, yet interesting. Can’t say I liked them more as I read, though. Watson is largely just a spectator, hardly ever doing anything to advance the story, and Sherlock proved himself to be The famous Sherlock Holmes.

Watson is largely just a spectator, hardly ever doing anything to advance the story, and Sherlock proved himself to be very arrogant and cocky. As for the latter, I won’t dissent that he is a great detective and does possess amazing and often inhuman talent.

But I would respect it a lot more if he wasn’t showing off all the time. Don’t get me wrong, I understand that, because it’s Watson narrating the story, Sherlock has to explain his thought process to the reader. But in some cases it’s absolutely inessential, and could be explained implicitly.

The story was interesting. It was a nice case to show Sherlock’s abilities, but what really shined was the suspects backstory. It was, by far, the most interesting episode of the novel’s plot, and it’s a shame that it felt so rushed.

I would prefer to really know more about the suspect character and his actions, to give a stronger justification for the crime committed. As I finished the novel, I felt like I wanted more of what I read, with the same characters, solving complicated cases with interesting backstories.

It didn’t impress me, but I’m satisfied. I’m looking forward to the next novels in the series. This book contains the following short stories: For a detective that loves strange cases, Sherlock sure does solve a lot of vulgar ones.

Apart from that, I don’t have much to say about these short stories.

They’re good newspaper material, but are poor and disappointing in a collection. Overall, the short stories are average, but too short to actually be There are some that are worth talking about, of course. They had more unusual cases, and that really is what makes the short stories worthwhile. However, they still leave something to be desired, as the cases are not as explored as they could sm.

They are nothing out of the ordinary. Some are worth reading, and are in fact a good addition to the Sherlock Holmes series, although they would be better if they were more developed.
