This book was SO boring. Sign up and get a free eBook! Still, I can’t remember being so absorbed into an animal tale in years and years. It’s a creation myth really, telling the story of the earliest human civilisations and the evolution of wolf to dog.

Thanks for telling us about the problem. The depictions of the wolf pack are both interesting and fascinating. The road Kaala travels to ultimate understanding is a tortured one that, at times, borders on the tiresome, but this is a minor drawback in a book whose strength is in the depiction of life in and among wolf packs.

This was a really great read. In fact it took me a very long time to find the plot at all.

May 11, Jennifer Wardrip rated it really liked it Shelves: I loved the ins and outs of pack life that are shown in this novel – the rules and requirements for how the pack will operate. Born of a forbidden, mixed-blood litter and treated as an outcast after her mother is exiled, Kaala struggles to earn her place in the pack. Hearst, your novel is amazing! I definitely enjoyed everything about this book and I can’t wait to read the others. The author did a superb job of pointing out the similarities between canines and humans, and using them to weave a believable tale about WOLVES, not a bunch of human characters in cartoon wolf bodies.

Sprinting, outspoken and not one to back down from what she thinks is right, Kaala was a strong lead, even when she was a small pup. Kaala is our main character and she is an easy one to root for. I was at a conference for work, and the novel was still in the idea stage.

Promise of the Wolves. A favorite character, however, may be the raven Tlitoo, who plays the part of a Sancho Panza sidekick and provides some comic relief.

Kaala feels a powerful connection to the humans, and can’t resist going to them. This book was really good. The interaction between humans and wolves was also a coveted part of the novel. I am up for anything once and this novel is a clear example of why it is important to try reading new things Only if the pack leader decides they are strong enough to survive and accepts them as pack do they receive their name.

Apr 07, Annabella rated it it was amazing.

However, I didn’t find the characters all that lov The product description hezrst I found myself struggling to put the book down because I wanted so badly to find out the fate of Kaala and her pack, along with the humans. Kaala finds it overpowering and this is not surprising, for it is her destiny to solve the paradox between this pull and the violence in both wolf and human that causes conflict between them.

Promise of the Wolves

That wovles a criticism of the book but, if you are like me, thf is a warning. It’s an excellent story — I’d like to see how it plays out — but I did not realize until reading this book how big a role the voice of a novel plays in my desire to read it. She faces many life-and-death struggles in the first chapters, but for someone who faced those struggles and dealt with those emotions firsthand, the voice of the narration is a little stale.

It is the story of a pack of wolves living long ago when the world was a wilder place. Finally, as Kaala recounts her life, the narration paints her too clean for my liking. Promise of the Wolves is narrated in the first person by a young she-wolf, Kaala. It’s about thf wolf named Kaala who was born into a “mixed blood” family.

Hewrst loved animal stories, especially ones focused on wolves, so reading a book like this was like being sucked back into my childhood favorites.

And the beginning of the book was also intriguing.
