Ninjas are like samurai, but are often hired by them to do dirty work samurai wouldn’t touch. Still i recommend this novel to those who don’t mind the meticulous but repetitve descriptions of the ninja fights, the love-making scenes etc.

I look forward to following more of Nick’s storyline with the other characters who survived this first book of the series. This is where Lustbader excels.
Linnear uses him as bait, and it comes down to ninja-vs-ninja — ancient weapons used in a duel amidst modern architecture and office computers.
Good luck if you can last that long. The reader is slowly drip fed details of his childhood and also the important relationships he had in his formative years, especially with his parents. The ninja are introduced not as magical or almost mythical people, but rather as supreme martial artists who have reached the highest level and seek to progress further. The books that people don’t really even want to admit to reading, let alone enjoying.

I could easily deride the writer for his endless stereotyping of Asia, in general, and Japan, in particular, I mean really how many times do I have to read that Japanese are “inscrutable” and “hard-eyed” or that tired old phrase “East meets West?

Unfortunately he accepts a debt of honor which he feels obligated to pay, regardless of how difficult it may end up making his own life, thus leaving the story wide open for a sequel.
